Crash Test Accelerometers

Accelerometers for Crash testing or Impact test applications such as drop testing or helmet impact tests. Sensing technologies include Piezoresistive (PR) or MEMS and critically oil damped where resonance is a consideration such as HIC testing. The selection includes accelerometers for ATD In-dummy applications or on-vehicle impact tests. All are fully calibrated to ISO 17025 as standard and complaint to SAE J211/J2570. Configurations include single or triaxial accelerometers, all with a high g shock survivability up to 10000g. Customised solutions are readily available to include cable lengths, calibration voltages, Lemo connectors and Dallas ID chips.

Frequently Asked Questions About Accelerometers On Vehicle

Need Help with Vehicle Accelerometers?

Learn about accelerometers in vehicle safety testing, crash analysis, and how they enhance automotive research and development.

Accelerometers are crucial in vehicle safety testing as they measure the intensity and direction of forces during a crash. This data is essential for engineers and researchers to understand the dynamics of a crash, which helps in enhancing vehicle design to ensure better safety for passengers.

In automotive R&D, accelerometers provide detailed measurements of impact force and shock in crash tests. This precise data allows researchers to analyse vehicle performance under extreme conditions, leading to improvements in materials, vehicle structures, and safety mechanisms.

No, accelerometers measure the rate of change in velocity (acceleration) rather than the speed directly. They provide valuable data on the forces acting on a vehicle during changes in speed and collisions, which is different from what speedometers measure.

Piezo resistive accelerometers are particularly beneficial for crash tests due to their ability to measure large magnitude shock and vibrations. They support a wide range of dynamic responses and are highly durable, making them suitable for high-impact environments where precise data collection is crucial.
