Piezoelectric Triaxial Accelerometers
Piezoelectric accelerometers operate through the application of a force, caused by a displaced mass, on a piezoelectric material. Often this material is either lead-zirconate-titanate ceramic (PZT) or quartz. The applied force creates stresses in the piezoelectric material, displacing electrical charge proportional to the force.
Piezoelectric accelerometers can be provided either unamplified, known as charge mode accelerometers, or with an internal pre-amplifier, known as IEPE/ ICP®/CCLD accelerometers, with the acronym varying from manufacturer to manufacturer. StrainSense offer a range of triaxial IEPE accelerometers, capable of operating in high g environments, up to 600g and with frequency responses to 22kHz.
