As you can imagine with a large proportion of engineering activities, choosing the incorrect tool may have serious implications on the results of your measurements. The information contained below is to help visitors make a more informed decision on the Data Acquisition software which is most appropriate for their requirements.
Data acquisition software is used in conjunction with a data acquisition system. It is used for the functions listed below in the measurement process, all available within Oxygen:
To configure an input channel in data acquisition software, the input type, input range, sensor sensitivity, offset and excitation, and desired filtering need to be entered. All of these parameters are entered in the Oxygen data acquisition software for each channel, and can be stored in a measurement setup for repeated use.
Oxygen software has TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) compatibility for TRION-MULTI and TRION-2402-dACC modules. This allows sensors with TEDS chips, e.g. accelerometers, pressure sensors, load cells, to be connected directly to the acquisition system and Oxygen detects the sensor's TEDS calibration data and populates the input channel with the required data including sensitivity, offset and excitation.
Oxygen also includes a sensor database where data including serial number, sensitivity, offset and excitation is stored on the acquisition system. Sensors can be selected from the database and allocated to individual data acquisition channels.
Data acquisition software is installed on the data acquisition system that is connected to the sensors measuring physical parameters during a test. Oxygen is installed on the DEWE2/3 acquisition system detailed elsewhere on this website.
Data acquisition software can also be installed on separate PCs for post processing and analysis of the recorded data files, and producing reports.
For the TRIONet data acquisition front end, the software is installed on the PC connected to the front end by Ethernet or USB.
For many test applications, data needs to be viewed in real time. In Oxygen raw data channels and calculated parameters (math, statistics, filtered, FFT, power group, strain gauge rosette, other analysis tools) can be displayed on a suite of configurable instruments on a display screen.
Instruments include analogue meter, digital meter, recorder chart, bar meter, scope, spectrum analyser, XY plot, GPS plot, spectogram, intensity diagram (efficiency map), power instrument, video, array chart.
Amplitude and time / frequency resolution are configurable on all instruments to optimise visualisation.
Multiple display screens can be created with instruments laid out as required, and multi-monitors are supported, ideal for test cell control rooms.
For many test applications, reports showing key data points need to be delivered. Oxygen has a report export tool featuring all of the display instruments detailed above, multiple pages and a configurable report template, with direct export to PDF and printer.
There are often digital signals or databuses that need to be stored alongside analogue sensor inputs in the test and measurement environment. Oxygen has a wide range of interface options available; many use the GLAN and USB interfaces available on the acquisition chassis, others require dedicated acquisition modules, further details are provided below.

In many applications it is necessary to integrate data acquisition software into a larger test cell environment including a unit under test, e.g. drivetrain, a load, e.g. dyno, and a load control system to work through test sequences.
Oxygen data acquisition software has a range of inputs and outputs for integration into a test cell. See the digital interfaces section above. Oxygen can be remotely controlled using SCPI over Ethernet, e.g. to load setups, update data file names, arm the acquisition system.
In a test and measurement environment with dynamic signals, it is important to store the data with high time accuracy. Data can be stored in Oxygen at high accuracy relative time using the internal TRION-SYNC-BUS as standard. For acquisition of data synchronously with other acquisition systems, several options are available.
It may be a requirement to use a pre-existing analysis routine. Data can be exported from Oxygen in a range of file formats.
The exported data file includes the time stamp and can cover the entire duration of the native data file or a trimmed length of data, and selected channels. Data files can be automatically exported at the end of a measurement. Export formats available from Oxygen are:
