Fluid Properties

The Fluid Properties Sensor (FPS) offers real-time monitoring of multiple parameters of fluids. A multi-function sensor immersed in fluid monitors viscosity, density, dielectric constant and temperature. This monitoring will mean that fluid change intervals can be optimised, allowing full-life use for maximum economy, without the risks associated with deteriorating characteristics. Applications include automotive, aerospace, power generation, marine and oil production. For use in fuels, lubricating oils, coolants and hydraulic fluids.

    These physical properties, when combined together in a single analysis, can be used by an ECU to dynamically modify the parameters to optimize engine performance, minimize emissions and avoid engine failures due to off-spec bio fuels.

    For research the four outputs can be independently monitored to offer a characteristic 'signature'. The analysis can indicate contamination levels and health levels, eg moisture ingress, carbon contamination and changes in viscosity with time.

    The FPS2810B12C4 is a novel Oil Quality sensor that directly and simultaneously monitors the quality of fluids such as engine oil, transmission and brake fluid, hydraulic and gear oils. Relying on patented tuning fork technology, the sensor measures the direct and dynamic relationship between multiple physical properties such as temperature, density, dynamic viscosity and dielectric constant to determine the quality, condition and contaminant loading of fluids such as engine oil, transmission and brake fluid, hydraulic and gear oils.

    Based on the combined miniature humidity / temperature sensor, HTM2500B3C4OIL is a very cost effective dedicated water content in oil and temperature transducer designed for industrial, transformers, trunk and automotive applications where a reliable and accurate measurement of water in oil content is needed. Direct interface with a micro-controller is made possiable with the module's water content voltage output. Customized versions are available upon request.
