Encapsulated & Waterproof Strain Gauges

The waterproof strain gauges are specifically designed for moist/humid environments and are durable for long or short term monitoring applications for highway, rail, marine and structures. Temperature range: -40°C to +82°C. Our weldable waterproof strain gauges are foil strain gauges bonded onto stainless steel shims, pre-wired and protected with a moulded waterproofing material. The stainless steel shim permits easy field installation with any conventional capacitive discharge spot welder (50 watt-second typical). All quality checks are done in a controlled environment with 100% water immersion testing. Pressure checks can be made to 500 psi on certain models.

    Potted Strain Gauges

    Fully wired and encapsulated strain gauge for ease of installation, particularly in areas where access is restricted. Can be installed in a few minutes using cyanoacrylate adhesives. Custom gauge assemblies can be manufactured to suit particular requirements.

    The encapsulation offers mechanical, chemical and moisture protection in a variety of environments, The RSE gauge may be used without further protection for short to medium term installations and for long term use when used with extra protective costings.

    Measure strain in one principal direction; along the long axis of the shim. Used to evaluate and monitor live-load stresses on railroads, bridges, and other civil structures.

    Weldable Strain Gauge

    Axial configured strain gauges measure strain in one principal direction: along the long axis of the shim. They can be oriented in either the longitudinal or circumferential direction on the component being tested, and the shims can be pre-curved to fit surfaces with small radius curvatures.

    Compact unit with strain gauges mounted 90° and 45° apart from the long axis of the shim. Best use of this waterproof weldable strain gauge is torque and shear measurements.

    HPI Shear configured strain gauges are used to measure the angular distortion that results when a component is subjected to torque or twisting. The shear strain gauge design is more compact than the Chevron gage, facilitaing its use where installation contraints are a concern.

    HPI's Chevron strain gauges are designed with two active elements oriented at right angles (90°) to each other, bonded to a single shim. Most popular for the ease and accuracy of Poisson’s Ratio measurements. (A material loaded in one direction will undergo strains perpendicular to the direction of the load as well as parallel to it. The ratio of the transverse strain to the longitudinal strain is called Poisson’s Ratio.)
